Training Week #8: Warmer Weather Brings Blessings

Image
Hello everyone! As the title suggests, this week has been better as the weather has been warming up. Of course, there are many reasons why we have had success (most of them dealing with spiritual things and God's good grace), but we've had some good temperatures out here. It may have still been cold, but being in the 30’s and 40’s Elder Hooser and I were able to proselyte without coats. As a result, we just wore sweaters over our shirts. It also helped to have the car once again, haha! Anyway, it was a great week as far as lessons go - we hit 22 lessons, which exceeds both the mission wide and ward's weekly lesson goal! This week we visited plenty of part-member families and got in with a number of people that we have not seen in a while, particularly Tim and Kevin. They were doing very well, and we will continue to work diligently with them in the upcoming weeks. We also got a new investigator who is 14 years old. His name is John, and he has told us that he knows the...

Training Week #7: Start of a New Transfer

Image
It is the beginning of my second transfer (6-week companionship period), and today is also my 2nd month mark! How cool is that? 22 more months to go. It has gone by very quickly since I left. We met with Tim today and he is doing very well; we talked to him a little bit about the temple and then read from the Book of Mormon. Still need to work out getting him to church, though.  Anyway, this wasn't a very eventful week. Once again Elder Hooser and I had to face some nasty weather during a week in which we had to walk across the city. Things got particularly annoying on days where the temperature was low and we had to walk literally an hour and a half to our appointments, just to find out they had been canceled. So we would walk a couple more hours. That was the pattern for the first few days of the week.  This is what happens when you have to walk in a snowstorm. But we kept our faith strong and pushed on diligently, and eventually we saw some success. We taug...

Training Week #6: Tending to the Lost Sheep

Image
Hello all! This week was pretty good here in the Davenport 1st Ward. We just got our transfer calls this morning: Elder Hooser and I will obviously be staying here, but Zone Leader Elder Wright and District Leader Elder Parry will be leaving. Elder Nichols will be the new District Leader. All of this will take effect   on Thursday . Our District! As far as this week goes, we tan ked on investigator lessons. We only had 2 member present lessons, and sadly we could not follow up with Tim on his experience with the Gilbert Temple open house. However,   we set a baptismal date with another investigator!   Her name is Tracy; she was referred to us from the sister missionaries in Moline, Illinois (just across the Mississippi), and she is definitely ready to be baptized. Unfortunately she could not make it to church yesterday, but she is still prepared by the Lord to enter His kingdom. When we were in Buffalo, Iowa on Saturday (a town alongside the Mississippi River), w...

Training Week #5: A Few Miracles

Image
Happy late Groundhog Day! Does anyone know if it's going to be a long winter? I would love for there to be some heat here in Davenport, because it's COLD. It doesn't help when you have to walk during the entire week, too. Anyway, on to happier and better things. As the title of this email suggests, we saw some miracles this week! Allow me to share them with you, for they will sum up most of what has been accomplished by the Lord's hands this past week. #1: One of our investigators, Tim, went down to Phoenix last week for his father's funeral. He was expecting him to die since he was struggling with heart issues, but he was still sad. While down there he left us a voicemail telling us that he heard about the   Gilbert Temple open house, so he attended a tour without a reservation!   He told us that tears were uncontrollably streaming down his face in the Celestial Room. Hopefully this will help for the Plan of Salvation lesson. #2: Another investigator we ...
