Lenox Week #9: Lifting the Saints

Image
This week has definitely taught Elder Briseno and me a lot of things, mostly in relation to working with the branch. Most of what I will elaborate on are principles I already knew about, but the Lord definitely reminded me of their importance as we went forth and served Him.  District Meeting lunch at the park, whaddup! Many things that our branch leaders have been focusing on are the matter of helping individuals fulfill their callings, become excited about the Work and just become overall better disciples of Christ. We missionaries can do all that we can to help the branch grow, but what good does our work do if we aren't conscious of how to strengthen the current members? A lot of our focus has recently been centered on teaching investigators with members present for lessons, which is what we   should  be doing, but I guess for a while we have lost sight of the fact that many of the members here need to be uplifted.  ...u mad, bro? While our k...

Lenox Week #8: Getting Pumped

DQ!! WHADDUP! I have both saddening and very positive news to share with you all up front. The sad things to say are that first of all, none of our investigators came to Church, and then we dropped a few other investigators throughout the week as well. I wasn't terribly surprised that such things happened since everyone has their personal agency, but sometimes it is difficult to witness people choose to not listen to the Restored Gospel any further. On the plus side though, we are still finding some new investigators!  We actually found three this week: Kayla, Marcus and Rehanna (I'm actually not sure that's how her name is spelled, though)!  The latter two are a couple that elders had previously taught late last year, so it's nice to be teaching some former investigators as well. This week was also great since we had plenty of opportunities to work alongside members of the branch, whether or not it may have been going on visits with our Branch Mission Leader or ...

Lenox Week #7: Continuing the Adventure in Southwest Iowa

I shouldn't be scared of a flower...but I am. Things are going great for us here in Lenox. The Lord has been blessing us like crazy as we have been trying to do His work! No, we haven't been witnessing armies of angels flying across the sky, but even then we have been grateful for all that He has blessed us with. The highlights from this past week are that for one thing,   we set a baptismal date with our investigator Lacey for   October 10 ! It was great to see that she is willing to keep commitments and learn more about the wonderful truths of the Gospel. Also,   we found two new investigators -   Austin and Wauneta   (pronounced "Juanita")! They are both awesome and seem like they are genuinely interested in studying the Restored Gospel. Those burgers are the best! Otherwise, we are still doing our best to find by the Spirit, since that is really what matters most in the Work of Salvation. We must do everything we can to continue to find peo...

Lenox Week #6: Miracles Galore

We love corn. To start things off, most of you are probably curious about transfer news. Unfortunately, we have not received our call yet. My personal speculation is that Elder MacDonald and I will probably stay together at this point, but considering that he only has two transfers left, anything could happen. I will let you know what happens next week. All we have heard for our District is that Elder Deeds will be leaving, but even then we are unsure as to whether or not he will retain his position as District Leader. We'll see what happens! The Osceola District, with the Zone Leaders! But anyway, I have some very exciting news to share with you all in this particular email - things are going   very well  with Troy and Jennie! We have had strong experiences with both fellowship and teaching throughout the week, and in all of these it was evident to the two of us elders that God has meant for us to teach them both. They both have good, solid desires to do wh...

Lenox Week #5: The Joy of Discipleship

HECK YES. Isn't it funny how sometimes you will find a lot of investigators in a short amount of time, and then suddenly it begins to seem like they do not really care to have you come back? I do not mean to be overly dramatic by saying this, because that is a typical thing for missionaries to go through as they continue to find, teach and baptize. However, it is still just interesting to be reminded of the fact that sometimes things don't always go the way you would hope. But you know what? Our hope shouldn't be centered on ourselves or other people, because people are weak; our faith should be placed upon the Lord Jesus Christ, because it is only He that can change our hearts. We do all that we can to help them, and then He takes over as He answers prayers and provide blessings as He has promised. I am simply glad that I can be His servant, because despite these minor setbacks we have been blessed to find some more people in Creston who are willing to have us com...
