Us Review

Image
Us was released in theaters on March 22, written and directed by comedian Jordan Peele. Peele has primarily been known for his work alongside collaborator Keegan-Michael Key with works like the Comedy Central sketch series Key and Peele , but in 2017 he gained critical and commercial attention with breakout horror hit Get Out . He later received the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for his work on the film. The cast of Us is lead by Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o ( 12 Years a Slave ), while complemented by fellow Black Panther actor Winston Duke and Elizabeth Moss in a supporting role. IMDb reports the synopsis of the film as such: “A family's serenity turns to chaos when a group of doppelgängers begins to terrorize them.” My full thoughts can be found in the video above, which has a timecode of exactly 11 minutes. If you would prefer a shorter version of my thoughts, read on. I don’t always like direct comparisons, but Jordan Peele’s Us alm...

Triple Frontier Review

Triple Frontier was released exclusively on Netflix on March 13, directed by J. C. Chandor from a script which he co-wrote alongside Mark Boal. Chandor previously directed Margin Call , All Is Lost , and A Most Violent Year . Boal’s previous screenplay credits include the Kathryn Bigelow films The Hurt Locker , Zero Dark Thirty , and Detroit . Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Garrett Hedlund, Charlie Hunnam, and Pedro Pascal headline a cast that consists of the five main characters in this narrative. IMDb reports the synopsis of the film as such: “Loyalties are tested when five former special forces operatives reunite to steal a drug lord's fortune, unleashing a chain of unintended consequences.” My full thoughts on the movie can be found in the video above, which has a timecode of 6:26. If you would prefer a shorter version of my thoughts, read on. I find it hard to believe that there could possibly be a film in which Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Garrett Hedlund, Cha...

A (Hopefully) Better Way for Me to Blog

Image
So this is interesting. If you have been following my content for quite a while, you may have noticed that I have been experimenting quite a bit with my content. Having taken notice of passing trends and lessons learned in some of my marketing courses at ASU, my assumption was that blogging was a dying trend. Given insights that were recently gathered about the number of active users on social media platforms , I would say that there is truth to that belief. But what I have come to realize is that despite some positive feedback to my videos, work needs to be done — and the (fair) criticism I’ve received is evidence of that. Others have felt alienated by the fact that these videos are too long. Still, others wish that I was still writing blogs. The fact is that in the quest to make my content better while maintaining the integrity of what I try to accomplish, I cannot appease everyone. It’s inevitable that I won’t be able to cater to my entire audience. ...nonethele...
