Green City Week #5: Memories Made in Nauvoo

Image
This was quite a special week not just for Elder Long and me, but for all of the missionaries serving in the Nauvoo Stake.   We had a mini Zone Conference in Nauvoo, but unlike how in past conferences the missionaries in the Davenport Stake would meet up with those in the Nauvoo Stake, President Jensen organized a conference just for us.  What better way to hit  your  seven  month mark  than to spend a day in Nauvoo? Thus, all that was shared between us felt much more personal to us due to the small group of missionaries; at least, that is what I felt about it. The conference itself was great, and here are some of the main principles that were shared during the meeting's proceedings: 1. Members are absolutely crucial in the conversion process for investigators. It is vital that we adhere to President Gordon B. Hinckley's counsel that every new member needs "a friend, a responsibility, and nourishment from the good word of God," and getting m...

Green City Week #4: Laboring Without Ceasing

There is not much to say about this week, for we did not see a lot of success in finding or following up with current investigators this week. These things happen though, so I do not want to make it seem like I am complaining at all. People have their agency so sometimes they choose to either not meet with us, or at other times they are simply unavailable at the most inconvenient times. But nevertheless, the Lord has a hand in all things, so we will continue to labor without ceasing here in Missouri. There are people that have been prepared here, so we will continue to work hard to find more people to teach. Yep, we found that along the highway. We did get a couple of new investigators this week, though!   The funny thing is that both of them are named Linda, and they have family in the Church. One of them has a granddaughter who was baptized less than a year ago, so we will make sure to bring her for the next discussion. She read   The Book of Mormon   40 years...

Green City Week #3: Independence Day and First Convert Baptisms

Happy Fourth of July, everyone! I know that it was a few days ago, but I just wanted to say it anyway. OH YEAH!!! It has been a great time to celebrate religious freedom down here in Missouri. There are many patriotic people down here, and it was fun to be able to introduce ourselves to the community in Green City for a little bit on that day. They had a countywide Independence Day celebration, so we spent a brief amount of time talking to some people and roaming the activities so that our presence could be made more widely known.  Most of our time on the 4th was spent in Quincy, Illinois though.   A great view, isn't it? We went down there for our monthly Zone Training Meeting, which was great since we learned the importance of a great many things such as: 1. Obedience is the first law of Heaven. 2. Helping people make and keep commitments is the best way we missionaries can help people to repent. When we follow-up with them on a consistent basis, this a...
