VidAngel Review #13: Hell or High Water

Image
VidAngel is a media streaming service which allows viewers to filter any sort of content they choose. For me, I choose to not watch R-rated films in theaters based on certain content. I still have plenty of interest in these films, though, so I use VidAngel as a platform to watch new R-rated releases on demand, and then share my opinion thereafter. Considering that much will have already been written about these films by the time I watch them, these reviews will be brief. Click here for an archive of all the films I’ve reviewed via VidAngel. (Poster Source: Wikipedia ) Finally, I got to watch another 2016 release I was eagerly waiting to see! Hell or High Water has been praised as not just one of the best films of the year, but also one of the better Western films in recent times. While I resist the use of such superlatives, one would think that the 98% Tomatometer and a Metacritic score of 88/100 would speak for how well this film has been received. Of c...

Ranking the Harry Potter Films

(Photo Source: Playbuzz ) I love getting opportunities to make lists. Although my first priority is to write reviews to satisfy my hungry reader base, these special posts give me a chance to have some fun with my blog. Therefore, I now wish to rank the Harry Potter films in order of personal preference. Considering that I also read all of the books (most of them before I saw their respective film adaptations), I hope that will give some credence to my thoughts. #7 - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Ironically, the only Harry Potter film I...

Arrival Review

(Photo Source: Wikipedia ) I have noticed something about cinema recently: a big-budget, ambitious science fiction film has been released during the fourth quarter of each year since 2013. It all started with Alfonso CuarĂ³n’s Gravity , and then in the following years we have been treated to Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar , Ridley Scott’s The Martian , and this year we have Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival . Such comes from a short story entitled “Story of Your Life” by Ted Chiang; screenwriter Eric Heisserer (responsible for Lights Out earlier this year) brought the story to fruition for the big screen. I was already intrigued by this film due to its trailer along with my previous interest in exploring Denis Villeneuve’s small yet rich filmography. You could also say that I wanted to see how Villeneuve could handle science fiction considering that his sequel to Blade Runner will be released next year. But then hype grew even more as Rotten Tomatoes began reporting revi...
