Lenox Week #4: Witnessing God's Hand

Image
That sure was a big ant. There is much to be grateful for here in the Lenox Branch, for despite how difficult it can be to bring people closer to Jesus Christ, the Lord is blessing us in our efforts. Among one of the greatest miracles we witnessed is that Father in Heaven helped us find   four new investigators this past week - Sara, Jennie, Brittney and Jessica!  Certainly going on exchanges here with our Zone Leaders helped out with that since they blitzed our area, but nevertheless, what really matters about all of this is that God led us to people who are prepared.  Me with our Zone Leaders, Elders Boyack and Wardell. Because of that, I have strong faith that He will continue to do so as we are faithful in following the Spirit. Keeping the commandments of God is the only way in which we can find true happiness, as well as enjoying success in bringing souls closer to the Savior. I am continually amazed by how much evidence us elders receive each day tha...

Lenox Week #3: Be Someone's Answer

To keep with the spirit of what I wrote last week, much of what I will mention today is about finding by the Spirit. To be completely frank, much of what we experienced this past seven days has been  absolutely crazy .  Kermit and I had a blast with each other on Saturday. First things first, we found three new investigators simply from going finding throughout the week; one (Tim McVey... and no, he is not the culprit behind the Oklahoma City bombing) we ran into while trying to follow-up with a potential who lives at the same address, we taught a 10-minute Restoration lesson to another man (Brandon) on his doorstep, and then the last one was an older lady named Marilyn who allowed us to come in upon knocking her door. In between all of those great opportunities to teach new people, we found many more individuals who have been prepared to hear the message of the Restoration through referrals, tracting and simply talking to people on the street. I'M JUST SO HAPPY!...

Lenox Week #2: Teach When You Find, Find When You Teach

The Iowa Des Moines Mission recently made a major change in how the missionary work is accounted for in this part of the Vineyard, and in my personal opinion, it has had powerful effects on all that we have recently done. This particular change is that one of the key indicators we are to report on has been changed; the original one we were to report on was how many lessons we taught to active member households during the week, but now we are to report on how many people we talk to! This is both for door and street contacts, for essentially this   new Open Your Mouth contact key indicator  is meant to track how much we are opening our mouth and inviting others to come closer to Jesus Christ. After all, this is a very easy one to track since our own commitment to talk to people directly correlates to the number of invitations we make, so it certainly has led to me being more accountable to the Lord and President Jensen. Yes, I would try to do my best to open my mouth to as many...

Lenox Week #1: Joy in Southwest Iowa

Image
Well hello there! I am in my fifth area now, and I must say that I am pleased and excited to serve here in the Lenox Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It's in the Des Moines Stake, so as my Dad predicted, I am finally serving in the west end of the mission after having served more towards the eastern part of the mission for the past year and a half. We are basically equidistant to both Omaha, Nebraska and Des Moines where we are at, so I find that to be interesting. The Lenox Branch is probably the most unique unit I've served in yet, because for one thing, the meetinghouse is actually... a house. Can you believe that?  Yeah, this is the Church. I had never seen anything like it before, but just as it is present in all other buildings throughout the world, the Spirit was very strong yesterday at Sacrament Meeting in Lenox, Iowa. I had the opportunity to bear my testimony to the minuscule congregation since yesterday was Fast   Sunday , so I h...
