A CGI Dog's Bland Adventure | The Call of the Wild Review

Image
The Call of the Wild is the latest of many adaptations of the 1903 novel by Jack London. Chris Sanders directed this particular version in his first live-action feature film, having only worked in animation in the past. The film made its debut in theaters on February 21, 2020. Even though the film is primarily focused on a CGI dog, the live-action cast consists of Harrison Ford (who also serves as the narrator), Dan Stevens, Karen Gillan, Omar Sy, Cara Gee, and Bradley Whitford. Here’s my brief synopsis of the film: As the Gold Rush swept through the Yukon in the late 1800s, the demand for tough, obedient dogs for sled teams grew very high. One day, a sheltered St. Bernard/Scotch Collie mix named Buck is abducted from his California home and shipped to the regions far north. From there, he learns to develop his own identity and purpose as he moves from one master to the next. The Best Movies of 2019

Image
2019 may have ended nearly two months ago, but I’m not quite ready to stop talking about it. After all, there were a number of 2019 releases that weren’t coming out until January and February of this year, for whatever reason. I wanted to make sure I had enough time to give each film a chance to get recognized. But beyond that, I had a lot to reflect on as 2019 came to a close. Last year was my first on YouTube, and I’m incredibly grateful to my friends, family, and all others who supported what I’m trying to accomplish here. To say that I’ve learned a lot would be a gross understatement, for there is much that I’ve gained from all those who have given me honest feedback. And as far as the movie releases themselves go, I experienced a whirlwind of different emotions as I took in what the artistic voices in the world of cinema had to offer. Having already made two different lists ranking the worst as well as the most surprising and disappointing movies of the past year, I ...

Spoiler-Filled Discussion of Sonic the Hedgehog

Image
Paramount and Sega were horribly misguided in how they went about marketing Sonic the Hedgehog on its first attempt, but now they’ve corrected themselves. After likely overworking and underpaying their poor animators to oblivion, those degenerate film executives have now given us a version of their Sonic that is actually tolerable to look at. Kudos to Jeff Fowler and company for making that happen, but it’s still insane to think how we all ultimately got here. The cast for Sonic the Hedgehog is headlined by Ben Schwartz voicing the Blue Blur, supported by James Marsden, Jim Carry, Tika Sumpter, Lee Majdoub, and Neal McDonough, to name a few. My synopsis of the film would be: “Ten years after the incredibly fast and supernaturally powerful Sonic arrived on Earth, life has been mostly kind to him. He enjoys his existence in the peaceful small town of Green Hills, Montana, observing its citizens’ daily lives and trying to develop his own identity despite his crippling lon...

DC's Underwhelming Attempt at Female Empowerment | Birds of Prey Review

Image
Birds of Prey , the latest installment of the very tumultuous DC Extended Universe, was directed by Cathy Yan, from a screenplay provided to her by Christina Hodson. It acts as a sort-of spin-off sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad . The film made its debut in theaters on February 7, 2020. Margot Robbie reprises her role as Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad . Newcomers to the cast include Ewan McGregor, Rosie Perez, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Chris Messina, and Ali Wong. Here’s my brief synopsis of the film: Some time has passed since the events of Suicide Squad , in which circumstances have led Harley Quinn to break up with longtime toxic boyfriend The Joker. Now that she’s without the protective shield that is her ex-boyfriend’s reputation, she struggles to get a break from violent reprobates who seek revenge against her. But an opportunity comes up when she meets a young girl who’s the target of Black Mask. This review is the transcribed version of the YouTube review linked ...
