Davenport Week #17: A New Approach

Image
I must say up front that this wasn't that eventful of a week, so this will be a somewhat short report. Elder Gray and I got discouraged as the week went on because literally every single set appointment we had for the week fell through the cracks, except for the member dinners we had.  Elder Gray made this monster: it consists of cheese, ramen noodles, ham, and a fried egg. Tracy has literally dropped off the face of the Earth (we have no contact with her whatsoever), and Tim wasn't able to meet with us yet again. It really was rough for us. I don't want to make it sound like I am complaining though, and if I am then I sincerely apologize because I do not want to underscore the miracles we   did   see.  We were able to get two investigators!   Their names are Theandra and Kortney; we randomly stopped by Theandra's home   on Tuesday   to see if she was open to hearing the Restoration lesson, and her friend Kortney suddenly walked out and liste...

Davenport Week #16: A Missionary Easter

Image
Once again, we have celebrated the life, Atonement, Crucifixion and Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was quite a great day to be a missionary yesterday.  Even if none of our investigators or frankly less-active members we are working with came to Sacrament Meeting, it was a special time to reflect on what He truly means to me. I am very grateful for how much He has blessed my life because of His great Atoning sacrifice, so I know now more than ever that He is the Christ. He suffered for all that we might live again, and I am grateful to know that I can one day become like Him. The rest of Easter was good too since a couple from the ward invited us over and then another couple for dinner, so that was a fun experience.  I would be lying if I said that we had a tremendous week though: we may have taught 15 lessons in all, but it seems like the work is digressing to a certain degree. We were not able to meet with Tim, many of our appointments fell through, a...

Davenport Week #15: The Fruits of our Labors

Image
Well hello, everyone! This has been a most good week.  It's funny because the past week was warm and muggy, but then for some reason today it started to snow! Iowa has some bipolar weather.   Elder Gray and I have had some struggles as always since we were walking this week, along with the fact that we had a lot of scoffers pass us by as we strolled along the streets of Davenport. People flipped us off, yelled at us mockingly, and even gave cat calls. But you know what? I don't even care, because I know the Gospel is true and the Work I have been called to do is divinely inspired. Anyway, so the reason why I chose to name this weekly report "The Fruits of our Labors" is because we have   four new investigators!   One of our resolves as a new companionship was to find like crazy and expand our teaching pool, and now that we have done that we are beginning to see some success. Although some are more solid than others, we have seen some great miracles this week in fi...

Davenport Week #14: General Conference and Baptismal Dates

Image
The topic of this week cannot be more simple than that. The main highlights are of course   General Conference , and then we also set a   baptismal date with Tim!   He is currently scheduled to be baptized on   May 24 , while we also reset Tracy's date for   May 10 . We are really excited for them both and hope that we can help lead them to the waters of baptism by those dates. Elder Gray and me... awkward style. Anyway, most of what I want to focus on today is going to be on General Conference. After the sessions were over, it was amazing for me to see how much more I love and cherish it than when I was back at home. I could literally feel myself being spiritually drained after the final session concluded, and that was evidence to me that as a missionary the messages given touched my heart in a way that I had never expected. I paid attention thoroughly, I received revelation, and I enjoyed the experience. And the miracle is that I never fell asleep!...
