The Worst Movies of 2019

Image
A lot of people have said that 2019 has been a great year for cinema. While there certainly have been plenty of good and great movies, this year leaned much more into the negative than positive for me. Plenty of movies I was excited for ended up being mediocre with a capital M or were just simply bad altogether. Among the worst movies of the year, though, you will find an assortment of unfortunate failures that are either unintentionally hilarious, relentlessly boring, embarrassing, or perhaps all of the above. The ten movies I had the most insufferable experiences with make up the topic of this particular list today. But please bear in mind that I don’t intend to be disingenuous towards the hard work and talent of the people who worked on these movies. They all had jobs to fill, and by making these movies, they were able to feed their families and themselves. Nonetheless, regardless of the time they spent making them, that doesn’t necessarily mean that quality products were w...

The Blockbusters You Shouldn't See This Christmas

Image
Merry Christmas! Regardless of your religious beliefs, I hope you have a spectacular holiday. May you and your families be filled with peace, love, and happiness over the next several days. This particular video was written and edited to be exclusively for YouTube, so no written transcription is available. It is less than 7 minutes long, though, if you would like to take a look. I explain why I feel that certain new releases should be skipped this Christmas, and then what families should go see if they want to go to the theater for a holiday activity. With all this being said, I hope you enjoy the video!

A Discussion About Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Image
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the moment where Disney realized that they may have made a mistake in handling the franchise. Instead of having a clear-cut plan from the outset for how the sequel trilogy would go, Kathleen Kennedy and J. J. Abrams essentially passed a baton to writer-director Rian Johnson for Episode VIII , allowing him to take open plot threads wherever he pleased. Enter The Last Jedi , a more innovative and arthouse-esque take on Star Wars , but one that has caused its fair share of division among the fanbase. The Last Jedi retains cast members such as Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher (posthumously), Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, but also brought in Kelly Marie Tran, Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern for key supporting roles. My synopsis of the film would be: “Shortly after the First Order’s humiliating defeat at Starkiller Base, they retaliate, forcing the desperately-outnumbered Resistance to ...

Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

Image
I think it’s safe to say that in comparison to this year, 2020 feels quite empty. You don’t have any huge series finishers like How to Train Your Dragon , Toy Story , Star Wars , or Avengers . It almost feels like Hollywood threw everything it had to end the decade strong, and now as we enter a new decade, there’s less to be hyped for. But even though we don’t have as many event films as 2019, this next year still has a lot to be excited about. Many new, original movies are coming from some of the most talented people in the industry, on top of other interesting blockbusters and sequels. These movies will be the subject of this particular post, and I hope I can point you towards some intriguing movies you weren’t previously aware of. (If you'd like to see the video version of this post, click the YouTube link above. It's about 7 minutes long.) #10 — Uncharted (Travis Knight) This one is definitely a case of wishful thinking. The film adaptation of Naughty...

The Redemption of Star Wars Games | Jedi Fallen Order Review (PS4)

Image
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was developed by Respawn Entertainment, the team primarily known for their work on the Titanfall series and Apex Legends . Their parent company EA published the game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 15, 2019. The game is a 3rd-person action-adventure with melee combat and Metroidvania level design. And here is my brief synopsis of the plot: Five years after the events of Revenge of the Sith , the Jedi are nearly extinct. One survivor of Order 66, Cal Kestis, hides his identity from the Empire while working as a scrapper of Republic gunships left over from the Clone Wars. Circumstances eventually expose his sensitivity to the Force, and soon after he realizes that he has no choice to fight the Empire, joining another former Jedi Cere Junda and a gruff pilot named Greez in hopes of restoring the Jedi Order.
