Davenport Week #18: May Miracles

The previous week I reported on was pretty tough for Elder Gray and I, but with the changes we decided to make in our proselyting we saw some awesome success in the past week. We mainly saw that in our newest investigator Dawn, who is honestly the most prepared person I have ever taught here. It will be a tough process to get her whole family into the Church, but ever since we introduced the Restoration and the Book of Mormon to her last Tuesday she has already read through 1 Nephi eagerly, went on a Church tour with us, made friends with an awesome family in our ward, and then she came to Sacrament Meeting yesterday with her daughter Heaven! We are shocked that she is progressing that quickly since it's tough to even find people to teach here in the Midwest. That is why I am so grateful that the Lord has blessed us with the opportunity to find her. Maybe I won't be here to see all of her progression, but at least I could see how much the Restored Gospel has already changed her life from just humble introductions to the Church.

The Primary President asked us to portray prophets for the children at church yesterday. Elder Gray was Noah and I was Joseph Smith.

We taught a good number of lessons this week and saw some other cool miracles. We met some very cool people along with a less-active member who invited us over for her birthday party/ice cream social when we first met her. That was a lot of fun.

Figured some of you might like this truck.

This week was also a standout because Elder Gray and I were able to deepen our companionship in so many different ways. Obviously I can't expound on the things we said since they are sacred, but from what I've learned about working and living with another person is that it takes a lot of humility, patience, care and Christlike love in order to work in full unity with someone completely different from you. Those are lessons that I will take with me for the rest of my life.

Almost every Sunday we get invited to Amanda's (blonde woman in the back) house for Family Home Evening, in which singles and some couples (members and investigators alike) gather together to eat and have fun.

Another thing worth mentioning is that we had a Zone P-day last Monday! On one hand it was disappointing since close to half of the zone could not be there for a number of reasons, but otherwise it was a lot of fun.

Sister Stephens and me before she left for Brazil.

We played basketball and then went to Whitey's (a very popular ice cream parlor found only in some parts of Iowa and Illinois) afterward. Later that night it was a little unsettling since we heard that the Quad City area was under a tornado watch, but luckily for us nothing came of that.

Elder Brown and I played Chubby Bunny last week after dinner. It was gross but somewhat tasty.

Well, even though transfer calls are coming today Elder Gray and I still do not know where we are going-if anywhere at all. We do know that Elder Roybal is being released as a Zone Leader though; he will be a District Leader elsewhere for the last two transfers of his mission. I guess you all will have to wait another week to find out what my upcoming transfer doctrine will be.

Our district, finally with the Zone Leaders!

Scripture of the Week: Alma 56:44-48; 55-56 (One reason why the Army of Helaman stood strong in the face of war, death and carnage is because they held true to what their mothers taught them. Do the same with what your mothers have taught you, and you will always find yourself on firm ground.

Missionary Advice: Be charitable to all. After all, if we truly want to follow Christ's example, that is the most important thing we can ever do in order to emulate Him.

This Saturday I turn 19, and then on Sunday I get to call my family! I am so stoked! Have a great week everyone, and I hope you all have a wonderful Mother's Day!
