Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Review
Although The Empire Strikes Back is Episode V of the Skywalker saga, it was the second in to be produced and released in theaters. George Lucas collaborated with Lawrence Kasdan and Leigh Brackett for the screenplay, but the director's duties were handed over to Irvin Kershner. It was originally released in theaters on May 21, 1980, and later set a new standard by how critics, audiences, and filmmakers perceive sequels.
The cast consists of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, James Earl Jones (vocal performance; David Prowse provided the physical performance of Darth Vader), Frank Oz, Billy Dee Williams, Alec Guinness, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.
The film’s page on IMDB lists this as the official synopsis:
“After the Rebels are brutally overpowered by the Empire on the ice planet Hoth, Luke Skywalker begins Jedi training with Yoda, while his friends are pursued by Darth Vader.”
Considering that the above video is just over 32 minutes long, I declined to write a full summary of our thoughts.
Just like with A New Hope, though, all three of us have a truly fond love for the fifth installment of the Star Wars saga. It has everything that a movie could ever need while being filled with countless iconic moments that changed cinema forever. Objectively speaking, The Empire Strikes Back is not only the best Star Wars movie, but it may also just be one of the greatest films ever.
I hope you enjoy our tribute to this one!
