The Implications of Spider-Man Leaving the MCU

Chances are that if you’re reading this, you have already heard that Spider-Man will no longer be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The reason for this has primarily been linked to financial motives, in which Disney and Sony could not reach a feasible agreement for how they would share revenues from live-action Spider-Man films moving forward.

Here is an excerpt of a Deadline article on this subject, which provides further information on what exactly went down:

“Disney asked that future Spider-Man films be a 50/50 co-financing arrangement between the studios, and there were discussions that this might extend to other films in the Spider-Man universe...Disney wasn’t at all interested in continuing the current terms where Marvel receives in the range of 5% of first-dollar gross, sources said.”

Obviously, this is a huge blow to the timeline established by Marvel Studios, especially with the way Far From Home ended. We will likely see where that story goes in Sony’s own Spider-Man universe with Venom, sure, but it’s disappointing that we won’t see it continued in the previous timeline. The Webhead’s days in the same universe as Black Panther, Iron Man, and the Hulk are over… at least for now.
